Country snapshot

What matters before buying

Market note

City-state with saturation coverage; PayNow QR everywhere.

Coverage reality

Singapore has dense, very fast networks across the whole island. There are no 2G or 3G networks left, only LTE and 5G. All three major carriers (Singtel, StarHub, M1) give excellent coverage and speed everywhere, from Marina Bay to Sentosa to the MRT tunnels. LTE alone is so fast here that whether a given plan includes 5G barely matters for a traveller.

Local SIM reality

Typical local SIM: $Very good value: around SGD 12 (~9 USD) for 100GB / 14 days on the big carriers. Travel eSIMs roughly 1-1.5 USD per GB.. Usually sold at Changi Airport SIM shops (physical SIMs only, no eSIM at the airport counters), operator stores, 7-Eleven. eSIMs are bought online before arrival or via operator apps.. Coverage is excellent on any of the big three, so don't overthink the network. M1 and StarHub usually beat Singtel on value. Note that Changi airport counters sell physical SIMs only, so buy an eSIM online beforehand if you want one.

Bottom line

Buy a data-only eSIM before you fly; coverage is superb on any network and Changi sells no eSIMs at the counter. If you want a local number, an M1 or StarHub tourist SIM is great value.

Networks

Our eSIM local operators

StarHub

Solid 4G and growing 5G, well-tailored tourist plans with extras like calls and free public Wi-Fi. Better value than Singtel.

M1

Competitive pricing and generous data. 5G rollout still in progress but 4G is fast everywhere. Good value.

Decision

Travel eSIM or local SIM?

Choose a travel eSIM

Short trips and stopovers where you want to land connected without the airport SIM queue, especially since Changi counters sell physical SIMs only. Convenience is the whole point in a small, well-covered country.

Consider a local SIM

Longer stays or if you want a local number; M1 and StarHub tourist SIMs bundle a number and calls at good value, beating Singtel on price.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What can I use the Singapore mobile data tools for?

Use this page to compare the current price per GB, network indicator, transparency signal and local-operator reference for Singapore. It also links to a destination calculator and plan page.

How is the Singapore price per GB calculated?

It is the median price per GB of mid-tier plans in the live Singapore catalogue. Small 1 GB teasers and 50 GB or larger bulk plans are excluded so the figure reflects a typical traveller choice.

What network information is shown for Singapore?

The page shows the current mobile speed indicator, a transparency score and the main local operator. These are destination-level signals, not a guarantee for every street or device.

Should I choose a travel eSIM or a local SIM in Singapore?

The decision section compares the practical trade-offs. A travel eSIM is usually simpler for a short visit; a local SIM can make sense when you need a local number, longer service or local pricing. Check the current conditions before deciding.
