5G covers 95%+ of population; AIS strongest on islands and rural north.
In 2026, 5G reaches more than 95% of Thailand's population. Both AIS and True run 5G across Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya and the main islands, with real-world speeds well above what any traveller needs. The old worry about finding a signal is mostly gone. What still varies is congestion in crowded tourist spots at peak hours, and reliability offshore and in remote national parks, where AIS holds the edge.
Typical local SIM: $8 to 15. Usually sold at Airport arrival counters and any 7-Eleven. An AIS or True tourist SIM is cheap and easy if you stay several weeks. For shorter trips, a travel eSIM saves you the queue and the passport registration.
For most travellers our eSIM is the simplest call: land connected, no airport queue. For very long stays, a local AIS pack wins on price per GB.
The biggest carrier, with the widest geographic, island and rural coverage and the most 5G towers. The best choice once you leave Bangkok.
Strong and often fastest in the cities. The dtac brand is being folded into True, and existing dtac eSIMs now route through the True network. Still catching up on some islands and remote provinces.
you want to land connected for a trip of a few days to a couple of weeks, without queuing or swapping a SIM.
you stay a month or more and want the lowest possible price per GB.

Use this page to compare the current price per GB, network indicator, transparency signal and local-operator reference for Thailand. It also links to a destination calculator and plan page.
It is the median price per GB of mid-tier plans in the live Thailand catalogue. Small 1 GB teasers and 50 GB or larger bulk plans are excluded so the figure reflects a typical traveller choice.
The page shows the current mobile speed indicator, a transparency score and the main local operator. These are destination-level signals, not a guarantee for every street or device.
The decision section compares the practical trade-offs. A travel eSIM is usually simpler for a short visit; a local SIM can make sense when you need a local number, longer service or local pricing. Check the current conditions before deciding.
Price per GB is the median of mid-tier plans from the live Thailand catalogue. Network and transparency indicators come from the shared Drift dataset and are refreshed monthly.
