Pakistan eSIM Guide 2026
Pakistan is one of Asia's most underrated connectivity success stories. Jazz's 4G network covers over 20,000 locations nationwide, Zong leads on urban speeds, and both reach the Karakoram Highway's inhabited valley sections. The trap is assuming the north works like Lahore. Hunza has 4G in Karimabad. K2 base camp has nothing. The gap between those two realities is what this guide navigates.
Jazz shut down 3G in November 2024 as part of its 4G for All programme. If you are still expecting 3G fallback in rural areas, update your mental model. It is 4G or offline.
Pakistan in one screen
Pakistan's mobile market in 2026 has two clear leaders. Jazz (formerly Mobilink) holds the broadest rural coverage with 74 million subscribers and Band 28 at 700 MHz that reaches valley floors where competitors cannot. Zong (China Mobile) leads on urban download speeds, averaging 17 to 22 Mbps in major commercial districts. For travel eSIMs, Jazz is the standard network partner and the correct default for any itinerary that goes north of Islamabad.
Jazz on Band 28 (700 MHz) is the reason it covers the KKH valleys where Zong cannot. If your route includes Hunza, Gilgit or Skardu, confirm your eSIM uses Jazz before you buy.
Coverage at a glance
| Destination | Network | Real experience |
|---|---|---|
| Islamabad / Rawalpindi | Jazz + Zong 4G | Excellent throughout. Zong fastest in Blue Area CBD. |
| Lahore | Jazz + Zong 4G | Strong everywhere. Offline maps useful in Walled City lanes. |
| Karachi | Jazz + Zong 4G | Good in commercial areas. Variable in older districts. |
| Karakoram Highway | Jazz 3G/4G variable | Coverage in valley towns. Deep gorges and tunnels offline. |
| Hunza (Karimabad) | Jazz 3G/4G | 4G in town. Absent above 3,500 m. |
| K2 base camp (5,150 m) | None | Fully offline. Satellite device required for safety. |
How much data Pakistan needs
Download the complete Islamabad-to-Khunjerab route in Maps.me from Islamabad hotel WiFi before departing north. The Besham to Chilas Indus Gorge section is 230 km of no signal. Plan for it, not against it.

Pakistan eSIM FAQ
Is Jazz or Zong better for Pakistan travel?
Jazz for any route that includes the Karakoram Highway, Hunza, Gilgit or Skardu. Jazz's Band 28 at 700 MHz provides valley coverage that Zong cannot match in the north. Zong is faster in Islamabad and Lahore commercial districts if urban speed is the priority.
Is there signal on the Karakoram Highway?
Jazz covers most inhabited valley sections. The Besham to Chilas Indus Gorge section is approximately 230 km with no signal on any operator. Download the full KKH route offline in Maps.me before departing Islamabad.
Do I need a VPN in Pakistan?
Recommended. X (Twitter) has been restricted since early 2024. Some VPN protocols are throttled. Install ExpressVPN or NordVPN with obfuscation before departure. WhatsApp, Google, and Zoom work without VPN.
How do I get around Pakistan cities without a local SIM?
Careem is the dominant ride-hailing app in Pakistan and works on data-only travel eSIMs. Register Careem before arrival using your home phone number. Jazz 4G enables Careem throughout Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
